AUSTIN, Texas – Junior quarterback Udgam Goyal of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology headlines the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division III football teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Goyal has been selected as the recipient of the Academic All-America® of the Year award for Division III football.

A computer science major with a 3.92 GPA, Goyal started nine games for the Engineers and completed 170 passes for 1,922 yards and 14 touchdowns, and added 337 yards and five touchdowns on the ground en route to All-NEWMAC first-team honors this fall. A two-year starter and native of Frisco, Texas, Goyal led the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) in passing yards per game (213.6) and pass-efficiency rating (134.7) this fall.

The Academic All-America® Division III Football teams have five repeat performers - Chandler Carroll (University of Chicago), Matt Fitchet (University of Mount Union), Matthew Murray (Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology), Alex Potocko (Salisbury University) and Joel Reighard (Juniata College) - from last year’s CoSIDA Academic All-America® teams.

Twenty-six of the 42 members of the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division III Football teams have at least a 3.90 GPA, with five student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. The 25 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.92.

The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 Division III Academic All-America® teams program.
