Carlos Rubio Garcia
AUSTIN, Texas – Senior goalkeeper
Carlos Rubio Garcia of Ohio Valley University headlines the 2017 Academic All-America® Division II Men's Soccer Teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
A senior sports management major with a 3.92 GPA, Rubio Garcia led Ohio Valley to a first-ever Great-Midwest Athletic Conference championship and a berth in the Midwest Regional. The Fighting Scots advanced to the regional championship game before falling to Rockhurst University 1-0 in overtime. They finished the year with a 17-2-4 record, with Rubio Garcia playing every minute in goal. A native of Valencia, Spain, he posted a Division II-best 14 shutouts while allowing just 11 goals for a 0.46 GAA. He was recently named to the D2SIDA All-Midwest Region team, and was named the G-MAC Defensive Player of the Year. He is now a two-time All-G-MAC selection.
Twenty-five of the 33 members of the 2017 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Men’s Soccer teams have at least a 3.90 GPA, with 13 student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. The 33 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.94.
The Academic All-America® Division II Men’s Soccer teams have two repeat performers –
Bryan Baugh (Dixie State University) and
