AUSTIN, Texas – Senior forward Amber Alexander of Vanguard University headlines the 2017-18 CoSIDA Academic All-America® College Division Women’s Basketball Teams as released by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
The College Division Academic All-America® basketball teams include student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.
 
Alexander has been selected as the Academic All-America® of the Year honorees for women’s basketball.
 
A senior studying education from Paragould, Arkansas, Alexander has compiled a 4.00 GPA both in undergraduate and graduate classes. She garnered a Golden State Athletic Conference Scholar-Athlete award.
 
Alexander collected first-team All-GSAC recognition during her second stint with the Lions. This season, she was selected as GSAC and NAIA Player of the Week twice behind stellar early-season performances. She led the team in scoring (14.4 points per game), rebounding (9.3) and blocked shots per game (1.08).

She had season highs with 38 points against University of Saint Katherine and 20 rebounds against Bethesda Christian University. In two seasons at Vanguard, Alexander has accrued 652 points, 458 rebounds, 73 steals and 41 blocks.

The Academic All-America® College Division Women's Basketball Team includes four repeat honorees, including three-time Academic All-American Kara Krolicki of Saint Xavier University. Haley Cook of the Indiana Institute of Technology took her second consecutive first-team nod, while Kari Borowiak from Concordia (Mich.) University and Jordyn Miller of Southwestern (Kansas) College also became two-time Academic All-Americans.
 
The 10 student-athletes on the women’s team averaged a 3.93 GPA.
