AUSTIN, Texas – Senior Tobias Muellers of Williams College and senior Taryn Cordani of Ithaca College headline the 2017-18 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III Cross Country/Track & Field Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
A chemistry major from Burlington, Vermont, with a 3.91 cumulative GPA, Muellers was named the Men’s Cross Country/Track & Field Academic All-American of the Year. The Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field Academic All-American of the Year, Cordani is an integrated marketing communications major with a 4.0 GPA from Douglas, Massachusetts.
 
A repeat Men’s Cross Country/Track & Field Academic All-America® first team selection, Muellers also earned third team Men’s Soccer Academic All-America® recognition in 2017 as a back for the Williams men’s soccer team. Last month, Muellers won the decathlon at the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, breaking his own school record with 6,969 points. He earned All-America honors in the heptathlon with a fourth- place finish at the 2018 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. Muellers, the Williams record-holder in the heptathlon with 5,068 points, received the NCAA Elite 90 award at the 2017 Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships.
 
Cordani is a Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field Academic All-America® first team selection this year. An 11-time NCAA Division III All-American in cross country and track & field, she has won four NCAA Division III Championships in her career. The Division III Champion in the 10,000-meters during the outdoor season in 2018 and 2017; she also won National Championships in the 5,000-meters and 3,000-meters at the 2017 Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. A three-time Division III All-American in cross country, Cordani received the NCAA Elite 90 award at the Division III Women’s Cross Country Championships.
 
Among the 45 student-athletes on the Division III Academic All-America® Men’s Cross Country/Track & Field teams, 11 men carry a GPA of 4.0 or better. There are 19 members of the 48 honored on this year’s Academic All-America® Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field teams with a perfect GPA of 4.0. The members of the men’s first team carry an average G.P.A. of 3.86, while the 17 members of the women’s team carry an average GPA of 3.91.
 
Twelve men and 15 women are repeat Academic All-America® selections this year. Three women earn recognition for the third-consecutive year. Of note, Lynchburg College’s Natalie Deacon is a four-time Academic All-America® pick between soccer (2014, 2nd team/2015, 1st team) and track & field (2017, 3rd team).
 
Muellers is among the seven repeat honorees on the men’s first team and he is one of four first team selections that earned the identical honor in 2016-17. Capital’s Logan Allison, Sam Merriman of Case Western Reserve and Tyler Neff of Mount Union join Muellers as two-time first team selections. Mitchell Johnson of Augustana (Ill.) and Leif Van Grinsven of Wheaton (Ill.) are first team selections this year, following second team recognition in 2016-17. Geoffrey Carney-Knisely of Wooster, a third team pick last year, is a first team honoree this year. Harley Moyer of Washington & Jefferson is on the third team for the second-consecutive year.
 
Three members of the Women’s Cross Country/Track & Field Academic All-America® earn their third-straight selection. Amber Celen of Bridgewater and Alison Lindsay of Washington University-St. Louis are on the first team for the second-consecutive year after earning third team honors in 2015-16. Jaime Lord of RPI picked up third team honors for the third time. Illinois Wesleyan’s Ameila Glueck and Emily Richards of Ohio Northern are first team honorees for the second-straight year. Kylee Bartlett of Rochester, Elizabeth Jones of Nebraska Wesleyan and Moravian’s Mary Kate Duncan are first team members this year, following second team recognition in 2016-17. Casey Hovland of St. Scholastica, Nebraska Wesleyan’s Kaylee Jones and Khia Kurtenbach from University of Chicago are on the first team this season after earning third team honors last year.  MIT teammates Nneoma Okonkwo and Leandra Zimmerman, second team performers this year, are repeat selections. Okonkwo was a second team selection in 2016-17 and Zimmerman was a third team honoree last year. Katie Goedecke of Mount Union is on the third team for the second-consecutive year.
