AUSTIN, Texas – University of Florida junior pitcher Kelly Barnhill headlines the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division I Softball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Barnhill has been selected as the 2018 recipient of the Academic All-America® of the Year award for Division I softball.
 
A public relations major with a 3.92 GPA, Barnhill was one of four finalists for the 2018 USA Softball Collegiate National Player of the Year award, which she earned last year. She also was named Southeastern Conference (SEC) Pitcher of the Year for the second consecutive season and received National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) all-region honors for the third year in a row. She has thrown seven no-hitters this season (five solo, two combined), including her first career perfect game on Feb. 25 against Georgia Southern.
 
A two-time Google Cloud first-team Academic All-America® selection, Barnhill was the 2017 Honda Sport Award recipient in softball and the espnW Player of the Year. The Marietta, Georgia, native also was a 2018 and 2017 NFCA first-team All-America honoree and is currently a member of the USA Softball Women’s National Team.
 
No less than 29 of the 33 members of the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division I Softball Team have at least a 3.90 G.P.A., with 19 student-athletes maintaining a 4.00 GPA (or better) as either undergraduate or graduate students. The 11 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.97.
 
Along with Barnhill, the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division I Softball Team has six other repeat performers from last year’s CoSIDA Academic All-America® teams – Lea Foerster (Michigan State University), Meghan Gregg (University of Tennessee), Haley Pace (Charlotte), Paige Parker (University of Oklahoma), Vanessa Shippy (Oklahoma State University) and Kristina Zalewski (Michigan State University) – with Pace, Parker and Shippy earning Academic All-America® honors for the third consecutive season.
