AUSTIN, Texas – Senior second baseman
Spencer Badia of Baldwin Wallace University headlines the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III baseball teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). This year’s teams feature 10 repeat honorees, including Badia.
A biology and pre-physical therapy double major at Baldwin Wallace with a 4.00 cumulative GPA, Badia has been selected as the recipient of the Google Cloud Academic All-America® of the Year award for Division III baseball. A first team selection this year to the Google Cloud Division III Academic All-America Team, he was a member of the second team in 2017.
A native of Bellaire, Ohio, Badia compiled a .358 (53-for-148) batting average in his senior season with the Yellow Jackets, with 41 RBI and 32 runs scored. He helped lead Baldwin Wallace to an Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC) Tournament title this season and an NCAA Tournament appearance. He was named Co-Most Valuable Player and an All-Tournament selection at the 2018 OAC Baseball Tournament.
Badia is one of four members of this year’s first team that were on the second team in 2017 as he is joined by Spalding University’s
Jimi Keating,
Blake Fleischman of University of Wisconsin-Whitewater and
Carter Admundsen of Augustana College (Ill.) in that group. Coe College’s
Grant Henning and
Riley Schaefer from Texas Lutheran are 2018 first team selections that earned third team recognition last year.
Jimmy Carrington of MSOE, a third team CoSIDA Academic All-America® selection in 2017, is a repeat honoree on the second team this year.
Jared Love of Chapman University and
Dakota Skinner from Keuka College earned third team honors for the second-consecutive year.
Justin Teague of SUNY Cortland, a first team selection in 2017, picked up third team honors in this year.
Twenty three of the 33 members of the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III baseball teams have at least a 3.90 GPA, with 10 student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. The seven members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.95.
The 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the program in 2017-18.
