Carlton Young was inducted into the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Hall of Fame in 1996. 

Runner Carlton Young left his mark on Villanova athletic history in his four years as a Wildcat from 1979 to 1983. His specialty was the 400 meters and today he stands as the second fastest 400m runner in school history with a time of 45.32 seconds. Young won 10 Big East titles and the NCAA Indoor Title in the 440y as a senior in 1983.

Young also excelled in the classroom, successfully balancing a rigorous pre-med curriculum with his athletic success. The biology major graduated in 1983 with a cumulative 3.84 GPA. He was also named a three-time Academic All-America while running for the Wildcats. As a senior he was named a First Team Academic All-American. Young was also awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship in 1983.

After graduating from Villanova in 1983, Young went on to medical school at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Md.  He graduated in 1987 and went on to specialize in surgery. Young is currently an Associate Professor of Surgery at the University of Alabama.
