• 1977 Academic All-America® Second Team
Steve Taylor was inducted into the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Hall of Fame in 1990.
Steve Taylor, a native of Newark, Del., was a standout in the classroom as well as on the mound for the Blue Hens.
Taylor was especially dominant in the 1977 campaign when he compiled a record of 12-1 on the season with a miniscule 1.59 ERA, striking out 114 batters as well. The Blue Hens were able to earn the East Coast Conference regular season crown thanks in large part to his contributions that season as well. Taylor was honored as a first team ABCA All-American team member as well as earning a second team CoSIDA Academic All-America award for his statistics on the diamond and in the classroom that year as well.
After concluding his career with Delaware, Taylor was selected in the first round of the Major League Baseball (MLB) draft by the New York Yankees in 1977. The selection made him the first Delaware baseball player to be selected in the first round of the draft.
After his baseball career Taylor moved on to be a successful businessman and state representative in Delaware. In 1999 he was inducted into the University of Delaware Hall of Fame for all of his accomplishments.
