Dr. Steve Bramwell was inducted into the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Hall of Fame in 1989.
Dr. Steven T. Bramwell, who earned his M.D. with honors from the University of Washington in 1971, received his bachelor's degree in economics in 1967. While attending Washington, Bramwell was honored with the Harkins Surgery Award, the UW Pediatrics Award and the UW Psychiatry Award.
During his career at UW, Bramwell was a three-year letterman at half back and excelled as a kick returner. He still holds the Huskies’ career record for kickoff returns and is second on the career punt return list, as well as ranking seventh on Washington's list of career all-purpose yards. His career kick return yardage and his combined kick and punt return yardage both established NCAA records upon his graduation.
He was a first team Academic All-America choice in 1964 by the College Sports Information Director's of America (CoSIDA), and was inducted in May 1989 into the CoSIDA/GET Academic All-America Hall of Fame as a member of the Hall's second class of inductees.
Bramwell began his work in the field as an intern at Strong Memorial Hospital at the University of Rochester in Rochester, New York (1971-1972). He returned to Washington for his residency training in orthopedic surgery from 1972-1976.
A native of Salt Lake City, Utah, Bramwell was appointed Assistant Professor of Orthopedic Surgery at the UW School of Medicine in 1977 and was also Director of the UW Department of Sports Medicine.
Bramwell served as Washington’s team physician for 20 years as well as the team physician for the Seattle Sounders professional soccer team.
Bramwell and his wife, Lynda, have five children.
