Claudia Henemyre-Harris never gave excuses for her busy schedule, just results. The three-sport athlete, ROTC scholarship and honors student, went on to become an officer in the United States military, a doctor, and a mother—succeeding at all three with unparalleled dedication and enthusiasm.

Working hard and playing hard at an early age, Henemyre-Harris earned a four-year ROTC scholarship to attend Western Maryland College, now known as McDaniel College. Henemyre-Harris represented the Green Terrors as an outstanding three-sport athlete in fastpitch softball, soccer and basketball. Each year she received Academic All-American honors, earning third team honors for softball in 1990, first team and third team honors for softball and soccer respectively in 1991, and first team honors in softball in 1992. As one of the school’s all-time most prolific goalkeepers, Henemyre-Harris still holds the school record for single season saves at a .899 percentage for her 1990 season and saves in a single game at 33. As a softball player she earned seasonal and school records in stolen bases, hitting, and fielding. In 1991 she won the Spirit of WMC Award, presented to the female athlete who displays dedication to the athletic program through hard work and a team-oriented attitude, with preference given to those that participate in more than one sport. She also won the WMC Women’s Alumnae Athletic Award for her accomplishments in leadership and fair play. She graduated in 1992 with a 3.72 GPA with dual degrees in biology and German.

After graduation from WMC, she was commissioned as Second Lieutenant in the United States Army and received an educational delay to attend graduate school. After earning her Ph.D., Dr. Henemyre-Harris came on active duty as a Captain in the Army Medical Service Corps, spending the next three years at the Dwight D. Eisenhower Army Medical Center in Fort Gordon, Georgia where she acted as Officer-in-Charge of the Clinical Investigation Facility and as Chief of Biochemistry Services. While serving there her multifaceted talents were utilized as a member of the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and as an appointed Assistant Adjunct Professor in the Department of Oral Biology and Maxillofacial Pathology in the School of Dentistry at the Medical College of Georgia.

Dr. Henemyre-Harris was promoted to the rank of Major in June of 2005 and continued to conduct research, specializing in wound healing and drug treatments for the effects of sulfur and mustard attacks, and has published numerous articles on her work. In 2006 she was inducted into the McDaniel Hall of Fame and currently resides and works in Maryland with her family.
