Tracy Caulkins Stockwell was inducted into the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Hall of Fame in 1997.
Tracy Caulkins, a 1985 graduate of the University of Florida, is one of the most decorated swimmers in Gator history as well as the entire nation.
In 1978 she was awarded with the James E. Sullivan Award presented by the Amateur Athletic Union, making her the youngest winner of the award at age 15. She then turned in a remarkable performance at the world championships, where she captured five gold medals and a silver in Berlin, Germany.
Caulkins went on to represent the United States in the 1984 Olympics after missing the 1980 Olympics due to the American boycott of the Games because of the Soviet invasion in Afghanistan. Despite the four year layoff, Caulkins was able to dominate in the pool once again as she captured the gold in three events (200m individual medley, 400m individual medley and also as a member of the 400m medley relay team) at the Los Angeles Games.
After the conclusion of the 1984 Games, Caulkins retired from competitive swimming. She was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1990, and in June 2008, Caulkins was presented with the “Medal of the Order of Australia” which recognizes her “service to sport as an administrator and proponent of sporting opportunities for women.”
