Tim Foley was inducted into the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Hall of Fame in 1997.
Tim Foley, an Evanston, Ill. native, was a star defensive back at Purdue University. At Purdue, Foley was a three-time All-Big Ten defensive back, a superb tackler, interceptor, and punt returner. He won the G.A. Rose Award as Purdue’s top male graduate in 1970.
Foley played 11 seasons with the Miami Dolphins in the National Football League. He started 114 of the 138 games he played in as a Dolphin, totaling 610 tackles, 22 interceptions, and seven fumble recoveries. He still holds the team record with three career blocked punts. He was named to the Pro Bowl in 1979. In his time with the Dolphins the team earned two Super Bowl rings.
After leaving pro football, Foley became a TV broadcaster, working for 10 years on national and SEC games of the week. He also was president of Foley Management, a marketing company in South Florida.
Later, Foley spent his time as a poet, songwriter, and accomplished musician (guitar, drums, piano). “Music is my hobby now,” he said. “It’s something I used to do. I wrote and performed a song when my sister got married. And it’s something I want to get back into.” Foley has served on the board of directors of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, the Boystown of South Florida and the Ronald McDonald House of Miami.
