Wade Mitchell was inducted into the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Hall of Fame in 1996.
Wade Mitchell, born in Atlanta, Georgia, excelled at quarterback in college at Georgia Tech under head coach Bobby Dodd in the 1950’s. Over his four year career (1953-56) he helped lead the Yellow Jackets to a 37-7-2 record. His teams also went on to win four consecutive bowl appearances as well.
Mitchell amassed 1,352 yards of total offense, throwing eight touchdowns and rushing for an additional seven. He also saw time on the team at place kicker and as a defensive back. As a defensive back he was able to amass 13 career interceptions on his career. Mitchell would go on to garner several awards during and after his playing time at Georgia Tech. He was selected as the 1956 Gator Bowl MVP for his performance in the game. He also received recognition as a third-team All-SEC member after the 1955-56 season.
