TOWSON, Md. – Senior shortstop Emma Napier of Campbellsville University leads the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Softball Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The Capital One Academic All-America® College Division softball team is comprised of student-athletes from NAIA, Canadian and two-year institutions.
A business major with a 3.92 G.P.A., Napier has been chosen as the winner of the Academic All-America® of the Year award for the College Division
softball team.
Napier, a native of Scottsville, Ky., was a Capital One Academic All-America® second team selection in 2012. The Mid-South Conference Player of the Year as well as the NCCAA Mid-East Region Co-Player of the Year, she led the Tigers to a 43-17 record and their first MSC regular-season title since 2009.
She was also named to National Christian College Athletic Association All-America team in 2013.
Napier led Campbellsville to a fourth-place finish at the NCCAA Tournament while leading the Tigers in hitting with a .460 batting average. She also led the team with 84 base hits, 65 runs scored, 18 doubles, three triples, 14 home runs and 22 stolen bases. She was also second on her team with 45 runs batted in. A three-time all-conference performer, Napier ranks eighth in the NAIA in runs scored and base hits. She was also 15th in home runs.
Napier is one of five repeat selections on the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Softball Team.
The 11 members of the 2013 Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Softball first team have an average G.P.A. of 3.87.
Infielder Katie Mollohan of St. Xavier earned first team honors for the second year in a row.
Senior outfielder Brooke Sampson of Doane and
senior designated player Allison Blackwood of Cumberland were second team honorees last year while
junior pitcher Megan Nonnemacher of Saint Xavier moved up from the third team.
Infielders Danielle Bayer, a senior from Missouri Baptist and
junior Caitlin O’Hagan of St. Gregory’s are the infielders on the Capital One Academic All-America® College Division Softball first team.
Senior pitcher Sam Cole of Davenport and
sophomore catcher Jade Bourgeois of Spring Hill join
senior outfielders Sarah Frerichs of Saint Ambrose and
Kara Usherwood of Robert Morris (Ill.) along with Sampson to round out the first team.
Six players on the first team, Cole, Nonnemacher, Bourgeois, Mollohan, O’Hagan and Blackwood, helped their teams qualify for the NAIA Tournament while Nonnemacher, Bourgeois and Mollohan led their teams to the NAIA National Championship Tournament in Columbus, Ga. from May 24 to May 30.
Mollohan, a senior mathematics major from Tinley Park, Ill., has a 3.78 G.P.A. Named as the 2012-13 Saint Xavier Female Student-Athlete of the Year, she was named to the All-CCAC team for the second time. She is the second-leading hitter for the No. 10 Cougars with a .360 batting average. The team leader with 39 runs batted in, she guided the Cougars to a 49-7 record. She also has 58 hits, 20 runs scored and six doubles.
A senior elementary and special education major with a 3.83 G.P.A.,
Sampson was the 2013 Great Plains Athletic Conference Player of the Year. She is Doane’s all-time leader in home runs (35), RBI (142) and slugging percentage (.687). A four-time All-GPAC performer, she batted .443 with six doubles, five triples, 10 home runs and 39 RBI’s for the Tigers in 2013. She led Doane to an 18-24 record and ranks 10th in the NAIA in slugging percentage (.843) and 30th in batting average.
A senior early child growth and education major with a 3.59 G.P.A.,
Blackwood was the 2012-13 recipient of Cumberland’s Lindsey Donnell Award. The four-time all-conference selection batted .395 as a senior for the Bulldogs. She had 64 hits, three doubles, three home runs and 41 RBI’s. As a pitcher, the Leoma, Tenn. native went 5-5 with three complete games, a shutout, a save and a 2.73 ERA in the circle for Cumberland.
Nonnemacher, a junior elementary education major with a 3.87 G.P.A., was named as the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year twice. A two-time all-conference pitcher, she helped tenth-ranked Cougars to a 49-7 record. She leads Saint Xavier in E.R.A. (1.58), wins (26), shutouts (10), innings pitched (195.0) and complete games (28). Nonnemacher, who also pitched her first perfect game this season, is ranked sixth in the NAIA in wins, 12th in strikeouts (221) and 27th in ERA.
Bayer, a senior sports management major with a 3.90 G.P.A., was named as the 2013 Outstanding Student of Achievement in Health and Sport Sciences Division at Missouri Baptist. She batted .378 and led the Spartams to a 21-15 record. A four-year starter for MBU, she collected 42 hits, seven doubles, a triple and a home run while driving in 28 runs. She was named the American Midwest Conference Player of the Week once in 2013.
A junior biomedical sciences major with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A.,
O’Hagan was named to the All-Sooner Athletic Conference team for the second time. While leading the No. 16 Cavaliers to a 35-17 record, she batted .375 to lead the team in hitting. The team leader with 42 RBI’s, she was third on the team with a .446 on-base percentage. O’Hagan, who added 10 doubles and three home runs while scoring 32 runs in 2013, is ranked 13th in NAIA in putouts (379) and 14th in fielding chances (405).
Cole, a senior business and sport management major with a 3.93 G.P.A., helped the Panthers to a 36-14-1 record and their second Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament title. Named as the WHAC Pitcher of the Year, she posted a 24-9 record with a 1.35 E.R.A. in 38 appearances. Cole started 32 games and threw 23 complete games, including a perfect game and a no-hitter. She also recorded 181 strikeouts. A four-time All-WHAC performer, she is ranked 10th in the NAIA in wins and 17th in E.R.A.
A sophomore mathematics major with a perfect 4.00 G.P.A.,
Bourgeois had the game-winning hit for the No. 15 Badgers in the championship game of their NAIA tournament opening-round bracket. She is batting .400 while leading the Badgers to a 45-15 record. While setting a school record with 22 doubles, she drove in 36 runs and had a .563 slugging percentage. An All-Southern States Athletic Conference catcher, she is ranked second in the NAIA in total chances (499) and putouts (470).
Frerichs, a senior biology major with a 3.89 G.P.A., was named to the All-Midwest Collegiate Conference team this season. She batted .335 for Saint Ambrose while leading the Queen Bees to a 30-15 record and their first league title since 2001. She added 12 doubles, four triples, six home runs and 28 RBI’s. She also stole 33 bases and scored 47 runs. Frerichs is ranked 12th in the NAIA in stolen bases
Usherwood, a senior graphic design major with a 3.95 G.P.A., was an All-CCAC performer. While leading the Eagles to a 26-19 record, she was the Eagles’ leading hitter with a .361 batting average. She also led her team with 53 hits, five triples, 73 total bases and a .497 slugging percentage. She was second on the team with 18 stolen bases.

Aubrey Utley of Central Methodist University, catcher Brittany Lewis of Bethany (Kan.) College, infielders Sarah Beckman of William Carey University, Stephanie Mark of Seward County Community College, Molly Mills of College of Idaho, and
Megan Tieken of Nebraska Wesleyan University; outfielders Tonya Berta of Siena Heights University, Brittany Dunson of University of Mobile, and
Bethany Holaway of Olivet Nazarene University; and
designated player Emily Krienke of Oklahoma City University.

third team consists of
pitchers Natalie Newell of Bethel (Ind.) College and
Emma Remy of Morningside College;
infielders Nicole Green of Saint Ambrose, Maddie Boyd of the University of South Carolina at Beaufort, Allie Foley of Marian (Ind.) University, Amanda Martinsen of Ottawa University, and
