AUSTIN, Texas – Senior libero Molly Kelly of the University of Iowa headlines the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division I Women’s Volleyball team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Kelly has been selected as the recipient of the Google Cloud Academic All-America® of the Year award for Division I women's volleyball.
An International studies and religious studies major, Kelly holds a 4.06 grade point average (GPA) during her final season as a Hawkeye. On the court, Kelly led the Big Ten with 5.12 digs per set and 619 total digs, numbers that ranked No. 23 and No. 40, respectively, in the country.
Kelly, a native of West Liberty, Iowa, is a two-time academic All-Big Ten honoree, 2017-18 Big Ten Distinguished Scholar, and 2018 CoSIDA Academic All-District honoree. She was named Iowa’s Big Ten sportsmanship award winner in 2018.
She is the only player in program history to reach 600 digs in a single season. In addition, Kelly set the program record for digs in a three-set match with 27 on Oct. 19. On Nov. 23, Kelly etched herself in Iowa’s record book again, recording 34 digs to tie for fifth in program history for digs in a single-match.
Kelly played in 128 career games, including 43 starts. She accumulated 1,125 career digs, 111 assists, and averaged 2.52 digs per set. Kelly ranks 11th in the program in career digs and her 5.12 digs per set this season are the most in school history since the 25-point scoring system was implemented in 2008.
Fourteen of the 22 members of the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division I Women’s Volleyball teams have a GPA of 4.00 or higher, while 18 of the 22 members maintain at least a 3.90 GPA. On the first team, all seven members carry at least a 3.99 GPA.
The 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division I Women’s Volleyball team has five repeat performers – Ann Hollas (Stephen F. Austin University), Kristen Stucker (Austin Peay State University), Anna Zwiebel (Louisiana State University), Patricia Mattingly (U.S. Naval Academy) and Jaali Winters (Creighton University).
