AUSTIN, Texas – Augustana (S.D.) University senior linebacker Kirby Hora headlines the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II football team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.

A native of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, Hora is the recipient of the Google Cloud Academic All-America® of the Year award for Division II football. A biology major with a perfect 4.00 GPA, Hora is one of two three-time CoSIDA Academic All-America® choices on the 2018 first team. Hora is two-time All-Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference academic selection who completes his Augustana career with 411 tackles (second in program history).

A four-time All-NSIC pick on the field, Hora had 97 tackles this year as the Vikings compiled a 7-4 overall record. Hora also recorded 10 tackles for losses (43 yards), three sacks, two forced fumbles, two fumble recoveries and one interception in 2018. He has made his mark as chair of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee and president of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes at Augustana.

The 26 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II football first team members hold a composite 3.883 GPA. Five first team honorees hold a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA. Nine Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II football selections are repeat picks from the 2017 honor squads with seven of the veterans making the 2018 first team.

Hora and Ohio Dominican University senior wide receiver Cory Contini complete their careers as three-time Academic All-America® choices. Hora made the second team as a sophomore before grabbing first team laurels his final two seasons. Contini made a clean sweep with his three consecutive first team trophies.

The other five repeat first team selections are senior offensive linemen Brandon Roe (Southwestern Oklahoma State University) and Austin Treneff (Notre Dame College), senior defensive linemen Jon Dicke (Southwest Minnesota State University) and Joey Newman (Augustana) and senior defensive back Avram Tynes (Augustana). Dicke has two first team distinctions, while Roe, Treneff, Newman and Tynes made the second team in 2017.

Missouri University of Science & Technology teammates Deshawn Jones and Bo Brooks are the two repeat performers on the Google Cloud Academic All-America® second team. Linebacker Brooks was a first team choice in 2017, while running back Jones receives back-to-back second team honors. Missouri S&T is one of three schools with two second team selections each. The others are Ashland University and Grand Valley State University.

Hora, Newman and Tynes give the Vikings three first team members, tops on the 2018 list. Pittsburg State University takes home a program-best four Google Cloud Academic All-America® plaques with one first team member (senior defensive lineman Levi Wyrick) and three second team selections.
