AUSTIN, Texas – For the second year in a row, Lincoln Memorial University senior defensive specialist Erica Whiteaker is the Google Cloud Academic All-America® of the Year for NCAA Division II volleyball, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
The Kingston Springs, Tennessee, native holds a spotless 4.00 GPA with her biology/pre-medicine major. The two-time CoSIDA Academic All-America® first team selection is fourth in the NCAA with her 6.81 digs per game. Whiteaker’s 736 total digs place her ninth on the 2018 Division II list. She led the Railsplitters with 48 service aces.
The 2018 All-South Atlantic Conference second team pick is Lincoln Memorial’s career leader in total digs (2345) and digs per game (5.56). Whiteaker led the Railsplitters to two NCAA appearances in the last three years. LMU advanced to the SAC championship match this year.
Whiteaker is the reigning Lincoln Memorial Female Athlete of the Year award winner. In addition, she is a two-time winner of the SAC Elite 20 Award, presented to the student-athlete with the top GPA at the league championship site.
Fifteen of the 21 members of the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II volleyball team have a perfect 4.00 GPA, including all seven student-athletes honored as first team choices. Twelve of the 21 Academic All-America® selections played in this year’s NCAA Division II Tournament, including Whiteaker and four other first team members. The aggregate GPA for the 21 Academic All-America® team members is 3.946.
Six members of the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II volleyball teams are repeat picks. Whiteaker and Anderson (S.C.) University junior setter Emily Conlin both make the first team for the second year in a row. Wayne State (Neb.) College graduate student setter Megan Gebhardt moves up from the second team to the first team, while University of Minnesota Duluth senior outside hitter Makenzie Morgen jumps from the third team to the first team.
Texas A&M University - Commerce senior middle blocker Jaslyn Wacker is the only returning student-athlete on the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II volleyball second team. She made the second team in 2017. University of Central Oklahoma senior outside hitter Taylor Bevis is the only CoSIDA Academic All-America® veteran on the third team. She made the third team in 2017.
