AUSTIN, Texas – Senior quarterback Udgam Goyal of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology headlines the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III football teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
For the second consecutive seaon, Goyal has been selected as the recipient of the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year award for Division III football.
 
A computer science and engineering double-major with a 3.92 GPA, Goyal started all 11 games for the Engineers and completed 145 passes for 1,710 yards and 18 touchdowns, and added 303 yards on the ground this fall. He was named the 2018 New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Offensive Athlete of the Year and led MIT to the NCAA Division III playoffs after capturing the NEWMAC championship. A three-year starter and native of Frisco, Texas, Goyal led the NEWMAC in passing touchdowns and pass-efficiency rating (126.7) this fall.
 
The Academic All-America® Division III Football teams have 10 other repeat performers - defensive lineman Anthony Davidson (Johns Hopkins University); punter Turner Geisthardt (University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh); offensive lineman Christian Godina (University of Redlands); offensive lineman Christopher Lemke (Augsburg University); defensive lineman Michael Lohmeier (Carnegie Mellon University); offensive lineman Hank Michalski (Washington University in St. Louis); wide receiver Samuel Staehling (St. Norbert College); linebacker Eric Stevenson (Wheaton College, Ill.); running back Garrett Wight (Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology); and defensive back Nicholas Zambelli (Moravian College) - from last year’s Academic All-America® teams.
 
Thirty-four of the 51 members of the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III Football teams have at least a 3.90 GPA, with 12 student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. The 25 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.93.
 
The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Division III Academic All-America® teams program.
