AUSTIN, Texas – Senior outfielder Makenzie Duncan of Saint Mary’s College (Ind.) headlines the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III softball teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

An integrative biology major with a 4.0 cumulative GPA, Duncan has been selected as the recipient of the Academic All-America® of the Year award for Division III softball. She was also a chemistry minor and was one of the Class of 2018's valedictorians at Saint Mary’s.

A first-team selection to the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III Team, Duncan was a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-Central Region second-team and Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association (MIAA) first-team selection this spring. She helped the Belles to a 36-7 overall record and a 15-1 conference mark for the program’s first MIAA regular-season championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. Duncan was named to the Notre Dame (Ind.) Regional All-Tournament team.

A native of LaSalle, Michigan, Duncan batted .418 (59-for-141), including .493 (34-for-69) with runners in scoring position, 59 RBI and 32 runs scored. She smacked 26 extra-base hits, including seven triples and six home runs. The program's all-time leader in triples (22) and RBI (145), Duncan ended her career with 191 hits, a .380 batting average and a .633 slugging percentage.

Twenty-five of the 33 members of the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III softball teams have at least a 3.90 GPA, with 11 student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. The 11 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.97.

The 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division III softball teams include seven repeat Academic All-America® performers. The 2018 honor is the third consecutive for Maddie Flasco (Otterbein University), who was joined on the first team by 2017 selections Taylor Arends (Washington University in St. Louis) and Kassie Howard (Berry College). Laura Finke (Thomas More College) and Anna Strien (Luther College) repeated their second-team selections from a year ago, while Ama Biney (Worcester Polytechnic Institute) and Stefanie Polderman (University of Texas at Dallas) were named to the third team.

The Division III Google Cloud Academic All-America® program is financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2017-18 Division III Academic All-America® teams.
