AUSTIN, Texas – Waldorf University graduate student quarterback Hilton Joseph headlines the 2019 Academic All-America® NAIA football team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The NAIA Academic All-America® program is financially supported by the NAIA national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 NAIA Academic All-America® teams.

Joseph, a senior quarterback from Miami, Florida, took the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year honor for NAIA football. Joseph has maintained a 4.00 cumulative grade-point average in both his undergraduate and graduate studies. Joseph owns a 4.00 GPA pursuing a master’s degree in organizational leadership and earned a business degree from Waldorf in May with a perfect GPA.

Joseph became Waldorf’s first two-time NAIA All-American, reeling in honorable mention honors both times. Joseph established every single-season and career passing record during his time at Waldorf, which included a new school mark of 30 touchdown passes this fall. Joseph finished the year completing 158-of-261 passes for 2,355 yards and also producing 344 yards with three touchdowns on 87 carries. He collected North Star Athletic Association offensive most valuable player for the second consecutive year and two NSAA offensive player of the week accolades this year.

Joseph led the Warriors to their first appearance in the NAIA Top 25 this season as 23rd-ranked Waldorf went 7-3. Joseph will play in one more collegiate game as a member of the East Squad at the inaugural NAIA Senior Classic Saturday (Dec. 14) in Savannah, Georgia.

The 2019 Academic All-America® NAIA football team featured four two-time Academic All-Americans, including three from Evangel University (running back Darrius Lee, offensive lineman Kade Kelley and defensive back Andrew Poppen). The other repeat Academic All-America® selection was linebacker Jacob Katzer from Morningside College.

The 2019 Academic All-America® NAIA football team included three student-athletes who boast of 4.00 GPAs, two with 4.00 GPAs in graduate work and 13 who compiled a 3.90 or better GPA. The 26 first-team honorees own an average GPA of 3.88.
