AUSTIN, Texas – Senior midfielder Charlène Nowotny of Flagler College headlines the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Women's Soccer teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Division II Academic All-America® program.

Nowotny has been selected as the recipient of the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for Division II women's soccer, leading her team to the NCAA Division II Round of 16.

A psychology major with a 3.96 GPA, Nowotny has helped Flagler to a 21-0-1 record. The Saints were ranked third in the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 and will host Wingate University in the Southeast Region final Friday (Dec. 6). Flagler boasts the best winning percentage (.977) in the nation and is one of only two teams without a loss in NCAA Division II. The Saints previously won their first Peach Belt Conference Tournament title and followed that with wins over Catawba College and Lincoln Memorial University.

Nowotny, a native of Marburg, Germany, has started all 22 matches and has scored 10 goals while ranking second in the country in assists with 19, good for 39 points. The 19 assists are the second-highest total ever in the PBC and shattered Flagler’s season record. She has also set Flagler career records for assists and points (114) this year. Nowotny earned first team All-PBC accolades for the third straight year in 2019. She was a United Soccer Coaches first team All-American in 2017, and has earned All-Southeast Region honors the last three years.

Twenty-six of the 33 members of the 2019 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Women’s Soccer teams have at least a 3.90 GPA, with 16 student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. The 12 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.97.

The 2019 Academic All-America® Division II Women’s Soccer teams have five repeat performers – Amanda Hemmen (Montana State University at Billings), Maegen Doyle (University of Bridgeport), Madeline Goodfellow (Columbus State University), Caitlin deVries (West Liberty University), and Caitlin Quaempts (Florida Southern College) - from last year’s CoSIDA Academic All-America® teams.
