AUSTIN, Texas – Merrimack College senior lacrosse attack Charlie Bertrand and Lynn University senior swimmer Catalina Berraud-Galea (Toay, La Pampa, Argentina) headline the 2018-19 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II Men’s and Women’s At-Large teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Bertrand and Berraud-Galea were named the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for their respective teams.

The Google Cloud Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.

The at-large program for the Google Cloud Academic All-America® program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; bowling, crew and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.

Bertrand, who is a junior from Baldwinsville, N.Y., has led Merrimack to back-to-back national championships. For the second straight season, Bertrand won the Elite 90 Award for the 2019 NCAA Division II men’s lacrosse championship. Bertrand holds a 3.92 GPA with his mechanical engineering major.

On the field, Bertrand was named the USILA Player of the Year during the Warriors’ visit to the lacrosse championships in Philadelphia. Earlier, he was named the Northeast-10 Conference and the New England Player of the Year. Bertrand was also the only Division II player named to the Tewaaraton Watch List during the winter.

Statistically, Bertrand compiled 97 points this season (78 goals, 19 assists). He leads the nation in points per game (6.06) and goals per game (4.88). Bertrand’s 13 man-up goals is second nationally. He filled out his statistical ledger with 26 ground balls and seven caused turnovers.

Berraud-Galea, who is a senior from Toay, La Pampa, Argentina, is the first NCAA Division II women’s swimming student-athlete to win the Elite 90 Award twice. She holds a perfect 4.00 GPA with her sports management major. The Lynn Scholar-Athlete of the Year won a bronze medal in the 1650 Freestyle at the 2019 Sunshine State Conference championships, giving her six medals in four years. Berraud-Galea is only the second Lynn swimmer to qualify for the NCAA national championship meet four times.

Fifteen men and seven women are repeat performers on this year’s at-large teams. Thirty-seven (22 women, 15 men) student-athletes on the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II At-Large Teams have a 4.00 GPA. The Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II Women’s At-Large First Team had an overall 3.97 GPA, while the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II Men’s At-Large First Team had an overall 3.96 GPA.

Two student-athletes earn Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division II At-Large recognition for third time in their respective careers. On the men’s side, St. Cloud State University senior wrestler Brett Velasquez repeats on the first team after gleaning second team honors following his sophomore year. For the women, University of Indianapolis senior golfer Katharina Keilich matches Velasquez with her third recognition. Keilich is a second team honoree this year.
