AUSTIN, Texas – University of Alabama graduate student swimmer
Laurent Bams and Stanford University water polo junior
Makenzie Fischer headline the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division I Men’s and Women’s At-Large teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of American (CoSIDA).
Bams and Fischer have been selected as the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Team Members of the Year for Division I at-large programs. The at-large teams for the Google Cloud Academic All-America® program include the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming & diving, tennis and water polo for both men and women, as well as beach volleyball, bowling, field hockey and rowing for women, and volleyball and wrestling for men.
A native of Eijsden, Netherlands, Bams is a two-time Academic All-American®, having earned first team honors last season. He is also a two-time College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association (CSCAA) First Team Scholar All-American and a three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll selection. He earned first team All-American accolades after helping the Crimson Tide men capture a national title in the 200-medley relay at the 2019 NCAA Swimming and Diving Championships. Bams was also a first team All-American in both 2018 and 2017. In addition, he is a nine-time honorable mention All-American recipient from 2017-19. In his career, Bams has earned All-America honors in a combined 12 events. He concluded his Alabama career with both a bachelor's degree in accounting and master's degree in economics, carrying a perfect 4.00 GPA in both.
Fischer was a member of the 2016 United States water polo team that won gold at the Olympic Games in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil. She was also a part of two NCAA championship teams at Stanford in 2017 and 2019. Fischer, who was a second team Academic All-AmericaÒ honoree in 2018, was named the 2019 Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) Player of the Year, NCAA Tournament MVP, and was awarded the 2019 Peter J. Cutino Award, which is presented annually to the top male and female collegiate water polo student-athletes. She led the MPSF with 84 goals and 3.50 goals per game. Fischer is a three-time Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches (ACWPC) All-American, including a first team honoree in 2018 and 2019, and a second team recipient in 2017. A native of Laguna Beach, Calif., she has a 4.03 GPA as a mechanical engineering major at Stanford.

The 16 members of the first team (which was expanded due to ties in the voting) have an average GPA of 3.99.
