AUSTIN, Texas – Catcher Mike Aiello of Wisconsin-Whitewater headlines the 2019 Google Cloud All-America® Division III baseball teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
Aiello has been selected as the recipient of the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year award for Division III baseball. Aiello recently received his master’s degree from UW-Whitewater in professional studies with a 4.0 cumulative GPA in the graduate program. The native of Racine, Wisconsin already earned a bachelor’s degree from UW-Whitewater in physical education. He completed his undergraduate work with a 4.0 cumulative GPA as he graduated Summa Cum Laude.
 
Aiello posted a .339 (56-of-165) batting average this season, helping lead UW-Whitewater to a Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC) Championship, a WIAC Tournament title and a NCAA Division III Tournament bid. He tallied eight doubles, eight home runs, scored 46 runs and drove in 33 runs as a starter in all 47 games for the Warhawks. Aiello earned first team all-conference recognition this season from the Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (WIAC). He picked up second team All-Midwest region recognition from both the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) and D3baseball.com. The three-year starting catcher was the 2019 WIAC Baseball Max Sparger Scholar-Athlete recipient.
 
Nine of the 33 members of the 2019 Google Cloud All-America® Division III Academic All-America® Division III baseball teams have a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA. The 11 members of the first team have an average cumulative GPA of 3.97 and the 33 student-athletes that make up all three teams have an average cumulative GPA of 3.84.
 
Six of this year’s 33 student-athletes on the three teams are repeat selections from 2018. Rocco Maue of Case Western Reserve and Derek Manning of Elizabethtown College are on this year’s Google Cloud All-America® Division III First Team, following first team accolades last season. Widener’s Nick D’Alessandro and Ohio Northern’s Caleb Thomas, second team honorees in 2018, join Maue and Manning on this year’s first team unit. Matt Johnson of MIT is on the second team this year, following third team recognition in 2018. Penn State Behrend’s Scott Sada, a second team selection in 2018, is a third team honoree this season.
 
The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2018-19 Division III Academic All-America® teams program.
