AUSTIN, Texas – University of Alabama junior designated player Bailey Hemphill headlines the 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division I softball teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Hemphill has been voted as the 2019 recipient of the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year award for Division I softball.
A human development and family studies major with a 3.99 GPA, Hemphill was a finalist for the 2019 USA Softball Collegiate National Player of the Year award. She also garnered First Team All-SEC, Second Team NFCA All-America and NFCA Second Team All-South Region accolades this season. In addition, Hemphill was a Second Team NFCA All-South Region honoree last season.
Hemphill, a native of Lafayette, La., ranked second in NCAA Division I softball in RBI with 83 and third in home runs with 26 entering the Women’s College World Series. Both were Alabama single-season records.
She was a Google Cloud Academic All-America® Second Team selection last season.
The 2019 Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division I Softball Teams feature 21 members with a 4.0 GPA and 31 members with at least a 3.90 GPA as either undergraduate or graduate student-athletes. The 12 members on the first team have an average GPA of 3.99.
In addition to Hemphill, the Google Cloud Academic All-America® Division I Softball Teams have nine repeat selections from the 2018 and 2017 teams – Lindsey McLeod (Sam Houston State University), Hayley Baker (Belmont University), Mackenzie Boesel (University of South Carolina), Katie Reed (University of Kentucky), Celene Funke (University of Louisville), Kelly Barnhill (University of Florida), Sami Williams (Iowa State University), Bailee Baldwin (The University of Texas at San Antonio) and Demi Janak (Houston Baptist University).
