AUSTIN, Texas – Muskingum’s Marcus Dempsey headlines the 2019-20 Academic All-America® NCAA Division III men’s basketball teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced Wednesday.

Dempsey, a junior business management major from Zanesville, Ohio, has been named as the Academic All-America® NCAA Division III for men’s basketball.

Dempsey, a 2018 third team Academic All-America®, earns his second AAA nod this year after averaging 30.6 points per game on his way to a second All-OAC first team honor. In 2017-18, he finished third in the nation in scoring and he is currently second in the country this season.

The men's selections have two returnees from 2018-19 on the first team – Booker Coplin (Augsburg) and Conor Riordan (Simpson).

Kena Gilmour (Hamilton) and Matthew Kirmse (Milwaukee School of Engineering) join Dempsey, Coplin and Riordan on the first team.

The men’s first team consists of three seniors (Coplin, Gilmore, and Riordan), a graduate student (Kirmse) and a junior (Dempsey).

Coplin and Riordan were second team honorees last season.

Jack Davidson (Wabash) also was a second team honoree last season, having been named to the third team this year.

Springfield College, with second teamers Heath Post for the men and Alex Goslin for the women, is the only school in Division III with selections to both men's and women's teams.

The men have two honorees at 4.0 and the full team comes in at 3.81. The first team averages a 3.83 GPA.

Gilmour, Riordan, Ben College (Whitworth), Spencer Cook (Stevens Institute of Technology), Noah Valencia (Gallaudet) are Jostens Award finalists.

The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Division III Academic All-America® teams program.
