AUSTIN, Texas – Louisiana State University senior guard Skylar Mays headlines the 2019-20 Academic All-America® Division I men’s basketball teams selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced Monday.
 
Mays has been named the 2019-20 Academic All-America® of the Year for NCAA Division I men’s basketball.
 
Mays, a kinesiology major from Baton Rouge, Louisiana, earns Academic All-America® of the Year honors after being named to the Academic All-America® First Team in 2018-19 and earning second team honors in 2017-18. He boasts a 3.93 GPA and was named to the All-SEC Second Team last season. He was also named the 2019 SEC Scholar Athlete of the Year. This season, Mays is a top-10 finalist for the Jerry West Award as of one the nation’s top shooting guard. He leads the Tigers scoring 16.6 points per game and is second on the team in assists, averaging 3.0 per game. Mays is the only player in LSU history to accumulate 1,500 points, 400 rebounds, 300 assists, and 200 steals.
  
Three of the 15 members of the Academic All-America® Division I Men’s Basketball teams boast a perfect 4.0 GPA, all of which are graduate students. The five members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.93, with the entire men’s team holding a collective average GPA of 3.78
 
Four others join Mays as repeat selections on the Academic All-America® Division I men’s basketball teams from 2018-19 – Amidou Bamba (Charlotte), Brooks DeBisschop (Northern Arizona University), James Foye (Dartmouth College), and Matt Pile (University of Nebraska Omaha).
