Aaron Anderson
AUSTIN, Texas – Senior infielder
Aaron Anderson of Flagler College headlines the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II baseball team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Despite the cancellation of spring competition during COVID-19, CoSIDA continued its sponsorship of the Academic All-America awards program. Student-athletes were selected based on career statistics.
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
Anderson was selected as the recipient of the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year award for Division II baseball. It marks his second appearance on the Academic All-America® Team after being named to the third team a year ago. A native of St. Johns, Florida, he maintains a 4.00 GPA as an Accounting/Business Administration major.
An infielder, Anderson helped the Saints finish with a 13-9 record as the season came to a premature end due to the coronavirus pandemic. He led the team in batting (.369), hits (31), doubles (9), home runs (2), runs batted in (17), slugging percentage (.571), and on-base percentage (.455). He was the recipient of the Flagler Male Athlete of the Year Award along with the Athletics Director's Award, which goes to the male senior student-athlete with the highest GPA. Anderson was selected as the team's most valuable player this year.
In 2019, he was a first team All-Peach Belt honoree as Flagler posted a 30-23 record. He led the Saints with a .343 batting average, with 13 doubles, four home runs, and 31 RBI. He also hit over .300 in 2018 with a .330 average with seven doubles, three home runs, and 31 RBI. Flagler would end the year with a 31-22 record.
Twenty-one of the 34 members of the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Baseball teams have at least a 3.70 GPA, with three student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. The 11 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.79.
In addition to Anderson, the Academic All-America® Division II Baseball teams have four repeat performers –
Jacob Buchberger (Davenport University),
Chris Gambert (Bellarmine University),
Nathan Mark (Rockhurst University), and
Walter Pennington (Colorado School of Mines) - from last year’s CoSIDA Academic All-America® teams.
