AUSTIN, Texas – Senior pitcher Kylee Smith of the University of North Georgia headlines the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II softball team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
Despite the cancellation of spring competition during COVID-19, CoSIDA continued its sponsorship of the Academic All-America awards program. Student-athletes were selected based on career statistics.
 
The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Division II Academic All-America® teams program.
 
Smith has been selected as the recipient of the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year award for Division II softball.  In the classroom, the native of Suwanee, Georgia, has a 3.55 GPA as an International Affairs majors.
 
In the circle, Smith was a record-setting performer for the Nighthawks. She holds three career records while being n the top five in 10 more statistical categories. She led NCAA Division II in 2018 and ’19, along with leading the country in wins and strikeouts in 2018. She has a 109-15 career record and helped North Georgia to the NCAA Division Championship round in 2018 and appearances in the Southeast Regional in 2017 and 2019, as well.
 
Despite an abbreviated season this year, Smith led the Nighthawks to a 23-4 record. She had a 12-2 record with a 0.30 ERA, recording eight shutouts. In 2019, Smith was the D2CCA Ron Lenz Pitcher of the Year for the second straight year, and a first team D2CCA All-American, along with earning NFCA All-Southeast Region honors and Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Year for the second time. She ended the year with a 30-4 record with a 0.59 ERA.
 
In 2018, Smith had a 36-3 record with a 0.59 ERA as North Georgia went 62-4. She was a first team NFCA All-American and a D2CCA All-American while being named the D2CCA Ron Lenz Pitcher of the Year. She was the Peach Belt Pitcher of the Year. Smith began her career by going 31-6 with a 1.04 ERA as a freshman in 2017. She captured first team NFCA All-American honors and was a second team D2CCA All-American. She also earned the first of three appearances as a first team All-Peach Belt Conference choice.
 
Twenty-seven of the 33 members of the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Softball teams have at least a 3.80 GPA, with six student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. The 11 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.86.
 
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Softball teams feature 13  repeat performers – Jennifer Leonhardt (University of Southern Indiana), Georgia Capell (Tarleton State University), Abby Flessinger (Carson-Newman University), Emily Maseth (West Chester University), Mary Claire Coyne (Wingate University), Hailey Hinson (Colorado Mesa University), Jordyn Kleman (Winona State University), Aly Fowler (Spring Hill College), MacKray Odom (Trevecca Nazarene University), Hallie Waters (University of Indianapolis, Talon LaClair (Lenoir-Rhyne University), Clara Larson (Colorado School of Mines), and Lauren Lindgren (MSU Texas) - from previous CoSIDA Academic All-America® teams.
