AUSTIN, Texas – Eastern Kentucky University senior outfielder Nick Howie headlines the 2020 Academic All-America® Division I baseball team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced Thursday.

Howie has been named the 2020 Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for Division I baseball.

Despite the cancellation of spring competition during COVID-19, CoSIDA continued its sponsorship of the Academic All-America awards program. Student-athletes were selected based on career statistics.

A finance major with a 4.00 GPA from Oakville, Ontario, Howie becomes a three-time Academic All-America® selection after being named to the first team in 2019 and the third team in 2018.

Howie hit .351 with two home runs, 14 runs scored, 16 RBI, five doubles and six stolen bases in 14 games last season.  He was chosen as the 45th-best outfielder in the nation and rated as the 50th-best hitter by D1Baseball.com after the 2020 season. Howie was one of 36 players nationally named to the watch list for the Bobby Bragan Collegiate Slugger Award and he was the 2020 Ohio Valley Conference Preseason Player of the Year and was a preseason All-OVC selection.

Of the 33 members on the Academic All-America® Division I baseball team, seven boast a perfect 4.0 GPA. The 11 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.90.

Five others join Howe as repeat selections on Academic All-America® Division I baseball team from 2019 – Anthony Giachin (United States Military Academy), Alec Trela (University of Memphis), Alec Burleson (East Carolina University), Michael Guldberg (Georgia Tech) and Joe Lomuscio (Brown University).
