AUSTIN, Texas – Carly Ferguson of Missouri Baptist University headlines the 2019-20 Academic All-America® NAIA Women’s At-Large Team, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The NAIA Academic All-America® program is financially supported by the NAIA national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 NAIA Academic All-America® teams. Despite the cancellation of spring competition during COVID-19, CoSIDA continued its sponsorship of the Academic All-America awards program. Student-athletes were selected based on career statistics.
The at-large program for the Academic All-America® program includes the sports of fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, rifle, skiing, swimming and diving, tennis, water polo for both men and women; bowling, crew and field hockey for women; and volleyball and wrestling for men.
Ferguson was named the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for NAIA women’s at-large team.
A senior early childhood education and elementary education major from Farmington, Missouri, Ferguson carries a 4.0 cumulative GPA. She also earned second team CoSIDA Academic All-America® honors last season.
The Spartans golfer is a four-time American Midwest Conference Academic All-Conference selection, a two-time Daktronics-NAIA Scholar-Athlete and was an All-AMC honorable mention selection last season. In 2019 she became the third player in MBU women’s golf history to record multiple career victories and set a 36-hole program record. She has played in 27 tournaments with an average of 85.59, a career low of 73, two wins, three top-5, 12 top-10 and 14 top-20 finishes.
Joining Ferguson on the CoSIDA Academic All-America® NAIA Women’s At-Large Team as repeat selections are golfers
Melissa Eldredge of Oklahoma City University and
Cecilia Heck of Indiana Institute of Technology, tennis players
Madeline Bosnjak of Georgia Gwinnett College and
Elizabeth Kelley of Arizona Christian University and lacrosse player
Emily Crump of University of the Cumberlands. All five players were second team selections last year.
The CoSIDA Academic All-America® NAIA Women’s At-Large Team produced an average GPA of 3.87 with the first team combining for an average GPA of 3.91. The team includes six student-athletes with 4.0 GPA or higher.
