AUSTIN, Texas – Senior Nick Matteucci of Washington University in St. Louis headlines the 2019-20 Academic All-America® Division III Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Despite the cancellation of spring competition as a result of COVID-19, CoSIDA continued its sponsorship of the Academic All-America awards program. Student-athletes were selected based on career statistics/results.

A chemical engineering major from Des Peres, Missouri, with a perfect 4.00 grade-point average, Matteucci was named the Academic All-America® Men’s Track & Field/Cross Country Team Member of the Year.

Matteucci earned All-America recognition at the 2019 NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships, finishing in 20th place. He was named the University Athletic Association (UAA) Most Outstanding Performer in running events at the 2020 UAA Indoor Track & Field Championships with a first-place finish in the one-mile run. He posted the second-fastest qualifying time in the one-mile run for the 2020 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships and was also scheduled to participate in the distance medley relay at the championships. He is an 11-time All-American and holds program records in the indoor mile run and outdoor 1,500-meter run.

Among the 48 student-athletes selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division III Track & Field/Cross Country mens teams, eight carry a 4.0 grade-point average. The 16 members of the men’s track & field/cross country first team carry an average GPA of 3.86.

There are 14 men who repeat as Academic All-America® selections this year. Matteucci is the lone member of the men’s team that is a three-time honoree.

Among the two-time honorees on this year’s men’s squad, Sean McAneny of SUNY Geneseo and Yorai Shaoul of MIT are repeat first team selections. Toler Freyaldenhoven of Rhodes College, David Hall of Case Western Reserve, Billy Woltz of MIT and Andy Vasquez from Nebraska Wesleyan are on the first team this year after earning second team recognition in 2019. Trent Koehler of Nebraska Wesleyan, Matthew Kraus of DeSales, St. Olaf’s Sean Lonergan and John Harry Wagner of Washington University in St. Louis each earn first team honors this season following third team designations in 2019. Landon Zimmerman of UW-Whitewater joins Matt Karee of Carnegie Mellon and Southern Maine’s C.J. Moody as second team picks this year, after earning third team recognition in 2019.

The Division III Academic All-America® program is financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Division III Academic All-America® teams.
