AUSTIN, Texas – Senior
Katie Bacher of MIT headlines the 2019-20 Academic All-America® Division III Track & Field/Cross Country Teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Despite the cancellation of spring competition as a result of COVID-19, CoSIDA continued its sponsorship of the Academic All-America awards program. Student-athletes were selected based on career statistics/results.
Bacher, a native of Macungie, Pennsylvania, is the Academic All-America® Women’s Track & Field/Cross Country Team Member of the Year. She recently graduated from MIT with degrees in electrical engineering and computer science with a 4.00 GPA.
Bacher competed in four NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships in her career and was a four-time NEWMAC All-Conference performer in cross country. She is a four-time United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Region honoree in cross country. She qualified for the 2020 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championship in the mile run.
Among the 46 student-athletes selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division III Track & Field/Cross Country women's team, 16 carry a 4.0 grade-point average. The 17 members of the women’s track & field/cross country first team carry an average GPA of 3.94.
There are 13 women who repeat as Academic All-America® selections this year including four three-time performers.
Bacher highlights the quartet of three-time selections on the women’s track & field/cross country team. She is a first team selection in 2020 and 2019 with second team recognition in 2018.
