AUSTIN, Texas – Senior
Tyler Day of Northern Arizona University headline the 2020 Academic All-America® Division I Track & Field/Cross Country teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Day, a journalism major with a 3.75 GPA, has been named the 2020 Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for Division I men’s track & field/cross country.
Despite the cancellation of spring competition during COVID-19, CoSIDA continued its sponsorship of the Academic All-America awards program. Student-athletes were selected based on career statistics.
Day had an award-winning final indoor track & field season this spring, earning NCAA Men's Track Athlete of the Year honors after breaking the American collegiate record in the 5000m in January. The Gilbert, Arizona, native set a new American collegiate 5K record (13:16.95), which places him third all-time in the collegiate ranks. His lifetime-best performance in the 3K (7:45.70) also ranked him third nationally this season and ranks 12th all-time in the collegiate top 15.
Of the 46 members on the Academic All-America® Division I men’s track & field / cross country team, 11 boast a perfect 4.0 GPA. The 15 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.84. Eleven others join Day as repeat selections on the Academic All-America® Division I men’s track & field / cross country team from previous years –
