AUSTIN, Texas – Graduate student
Anna Cockrell of the University of Southern California headlines the 2020 Academic All-America® Division I Track & Field/Cross Country teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Cockrell, who carries a 4.00 GPA in a public policy graduate program and earned her undergraduate degree with a 3.98 GPA in communications, has been named the 2020 Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for Division I women’s track & field/cross country. Day, a journalism major with a 3.75 GPA, has been named the 2020 Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for Division I men’s track & field/cross country.
Despite the cancellation of spring competition during COVID-19, CoSIDA continued its sponsorship of the Academic All-America awards program. Student-athletes were selected based on career statistics.
Cockrell, from Charlotte, North Carolina, was the 2019 NCAA 400m hurdles champion and is a 10-time All-American. A three-time captain, she ranks third on both of USC’s 100-meter hurdle and 400-meter hurdle lists. Cockrell has run on three of USC’s all-time top-10 4x400m relays and ranks third in the 60-meter hurdles and seventh in the 200-meters on USC’s all-time indoor list.
Of the 47 members on the Academic All-America® Division I women’s track & field/cross country team, 17 boast a perfect 4.0 GPA. The 15 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.90.
