AUSTIN, Texas – Senior pitcher Hanna Hull of Virginia Wesleyan University headlines the 2020 Academic All-America® Division III softball teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

A mathematics major with a 3.65 cumulative GPA, Hull has been selected as the recipient of the Academic All-America® of the Year award for Division III softball.

Despite the cancellation of spring competition during COVID-19, CoSIDA continued its sponsorship of the Academic All-America awards program. Student-athletes were selected based on career statistics.

A first-team selection to the Academic All-America® Division III Team the past two seasons, Hull was named the 2020 Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC)/Virginia Farm Bureau Insurance Scholar-Athlete of the Year award for softball.

A native of Chesterfield, Virginia, Hull broke nearly every pitching record at Virginia Wesleyan and the ODAC. She is one of 24 pitchers in NCAA Division III history to total over 1,000 career strikeouts and owns 11 ODAC pitching records, including career marks for wins (109), innings pitched (725.2), strikeouts (1,153), shutouts (44) and ERA (0.68).

Hull posted an 8-0 record with five complete games and four shutouts in 11 appearances this spring. She allowed only one run and 20 hits in 47.1 innings pitched, a 0.15 ERA, with 66 strikeouts.

Eighteen of the 34 members of the 2020 Academic All-America® Division III softball teams have at least a 3.90 GPA, with five student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. The 11 first-team honorees have an average GPA of 3.86.

The 2020 Academic All-America® Division III softball teams include 11 repeat Academic All-America® performers, of which Allison Meyer (George Fox University) and Sarah Von Ahn (MIT) are now three-time honorees. Hull was joined on the first team once again by Shannon Lloyd (Keystone College), the 2019 Academic All-America® of the Year awardee, and Megan Zinn (University of Scranton). Three other first-team honorees were 2019 second-team selections: Ilissa Hamilton (Case Western Reserve University), Kelly Jurden (Texas Lutheran University) and Caraline Wood (Worcester Polytechnic Institute). Kalli Farmer (Millikin University) earned first-team distinction after receiving a third-team award last year, while Kierstin Anderson-Glass (University of St. Thomas) and Aly Freeman (Gustavus Adolphus College) achieved second-team distinction following their third-team honor in 2019. In addition, Yuleska Ramirez-Tejeda was also a first team Division III women’s basketball selection this year.

The Division III Academic All-America® program is financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2019-20 Division III Academic All-America® teams.
