AUSTIN, Texas – Opposite hitter Kenzie Koerber, a graduate student at Brigham Young University headlines the 2021 Academic All-America® Division I volleyball team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced Wednesday.
 
Koerber has been named the 2021 Academic All-America® of the Year for Division I volleyball.
 
A native of Chino Hills, Calif., Koerber was named the West Coast Conference Player of the Year and helped lead Brigham Young to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament and a 30-2 record, including a perfect 18-0 mark in conference play. Koerber was named the WCC Player of the Week four times during the season.  She averaged a .365 hitting percentage with 334 kills, collected seven double-doubles and averaged 3.53 kills and 2.43 digs per set.  Koerber earned her bachelor’s degree from Utah in communications and was a three-time American Volleyball Coaches Association All-American, a four-year starter and two-time All-Pac-12 Conference honoree.
 
Eight of the 21 members of the Academic All-America® Division I volleyball team boast a perfect 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate work or graduate school. The 10 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.87.
 
There were nine repeat selections on the Academic All-America® Division I volleyball team including three-time first team pick Sydney Hilley (University of Wisconsin). Hilley was joined by Abby Bottomley (Creighton University), Rylee Cookerly (Valparaiso University), Logan Eggleston (University of Texas), Kennedy Eschenberg (Brigham Young University), Mackenzie May (UCLA), McKenna Melville (UCF), Avery Skinner (Baylor University) and Hannah Thompson (Bradley University).
 
In addition, three Academic All-America® team members will compete in the NCAA Division I volleyball national semifinals beginning Thursday, Dec. 16: Serena Gray (Pittsburgh), Sydney Hilley (Wisconsin) and Kayla Lund (Pittsburgh).
