AUSTIN, Texas – Senior wide receiver Cody Gustafson of Grove City College headlines the 2021 Academic All-America® Division III football teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
A native of Newburg, Pennsylvania, Gustafson is a mathematics major with a 3.93 GPA. He played all 11 games for the Wolverines and ended the 2021 season with 97 receptions for 1,420 yards and 14 touchdowns. Gustafson was named the Presidents' Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year for the second straight season this fall and is a four-time All-PAC first-team selection.
 
Gustafson was a semifinalist for the Gagliardi Trophy, which is awarded to the most outstanding player in Division III, and has also been named CoSIDA Academic All-America® in track and field. He leads all active NCAA players with 5,305 career receiving yards and his 341 career receptions are second.
 
The Academic All-America® Division III Football teams have 17 repeat performers, including three-time honorees Gustafson, defensive lineman Lou Duh (Worcester Polytechnic Institute) and linebacker Ben Wong (North Central College). Wong was a first-team honoree each of the past three seasons, while Duh and Gustafson repeated their first-team honor from last season and were second-team selections in 2019.
 
Defensive back Ross Andersson (Johns Hopkins University), linebacker Ian Barr (Westminster College), offensive lineman Nathan Basinger (MIT), defensive back Jake Beesley (North Central College), defensive back Travis Brown (Carleton College), linebacker Sean Doran (Washington & Jefferson College), offensive lineman Kyle Gannon (University of Wisconsin-Whitewater), wide receiver Ryan Hubley (Johns Hopkins University), offensive lineman Tyler Johnson (Saint John’s University), defensive lineman Alex Keith (Washington & Jefferson College), defensive back Macauley Kilbane (Johns Hopkins University), defensive back Sean Knight (Carnegie Mellon University), defensive lineman Sante Parker Jr. (University of Mary Hardin-Baylor) and defensive back Andrew Whitaker (Washington University in St. Louis) repeated their honor from the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America® teams.
 
Twenty-six of the 51 members of the 2021 Academic All-America® Division III Football teams have at least a 3.90 GPA, with nine student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. The 26 members of the first team combine for a 3.86 GPA.
 
The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2021-22 Division III Academic All-America® teams program.
