AUSTIN, Texas – Senior Natalie Aston of Johns Hopkins University headlines the 2021 Academic All-America® Division III volleyball teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
 
Aston, pursuing a double major in behavioral biology and psychology, has been selected as the recipient of the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year award for Division III volleyball. A native of Woodland Hills, California, Aston holds a 3.81 cumulative GPA. A first team selection this year to the Division III Academic All-America® Team, Aston is now a two-time Academic All-America® honoree. She was also a member of the first team in 2020-21.
 
A setter for the Blue Jays, Aston earned her second career American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) first team All-America award in 2021. She was also a first team All-American in 2019 and an honorable mention selection in 2018. Additionally, Aston repeated this fall as the AVCA Region 5 Player of the Year and as the Centennial Conference Player of the Year.
 
Aston recorded 1,030 assists, 215 digs, 85 blocks and 84 kills during the 2021 season as she helped lead Johns Hopkins to the Regional Final of the NCAA Division III Volleyball Championship. She concluded her career ranked fourth in school history in assists with 2,841. She is third in career attack percentage (.325) and ranks seventh with 255 career blocks.
 
The seven members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.91 and the 22 student-athletes that make up all three teams have an average cumulative GPA of 3.88. Six of the 22 members of the 2021 Academic All-America® Division III volleyball teams have a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA. The six team members with a 4.00 GPA are: Vivian Beaudoin (Carnegie Mellon University ), Jessica Beil (Piedmont University), Syd Case (The College of Wooster), Elizabeth Chu (Stevens Institute of Technology), Emily Fagundo (Regis College), and Katie Hobler (RIT).
 
Seven of this year’s student-athletes on the three teams are repeat selections from 2020-21. Chu is a three-time selection to the Academic All-America® Division III volleyball teams. Her first team honor this year joins her first team award in 2020-21 and a third team honor in 2019. Aston and Chu are the two members of this year’s first team that were also on the 2020-21 first team.
 
Wartburg College teammates Kylie Bildstein and Katie Foster are first team selections this year, following third team recognition in 2020-21. Sydney Portale of Johns Hopkins is a repeat selection, earning second team honors in 2021 after first team honors in 2020-21. Kate Holtan of Gustavus Adolphus College and McKenna Otto from Hope College are on the second team this year after also earning second team accolades in 2020-21.
 
The Division III Academic All-America® program is financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2021-22 Division III Academic All-America® teams.
