AUSTIN, Texas – Senior Maya Nielan from MIT headlines the 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division III women’s soccer team selected by the College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) and announced Wednesday.
 
Nielan has earned first team honors in each of the last three seasons while Yang was a first team selection in 2020-21 and a third team pick in 2019.
 
Nielan, a back, helped the Engineers to a 22-2-1, Elite 8 showing this season with three goals and one assist for seven points in 16 games. In addition to her academic accolades, Nielan was named second team All-America in 2019 by both the United Soccer Coaches and D3Soccer.com and earned second team All-NEWMAC honors this fall.
 
Yang has been named to the United Soccer Coaches Scholar All-Region team twice.
 
Ten women are repeat CoSIDA Academic All-America® selections with Nielan being a three-time honoree.

The 33-member women’s team has a 3.94 average GPA with the first team boasting a 3.97. Eleven women, led by Nielan, have a 4.0 GPA. Julia Meehan (Wesleyan), Elizabeth White (Case Western Reserve), Niya Wilson (Wisconsin-Superior), Rose Evans (Middlebury), Jocelyn Mayer (Carnegie Mellon), Alexa Brown (Moravian), Kily Egan (North Central), Rachel Strader (RIT), Juliette Carreiro (Brandeis), and Meghan Rowlett (MIT) join Nielan in earning this honor.
 
Nine schools have multiple honorees with MIT’s seven combined (five women, two men) leading the way. Loras and Johns Hopkins both are represented by two men and two women with Messiah, Tufts, and Westminster all putting two men on the team. Carnegie Mellon is represented by three women and one man while Grove City and North Central both have one man and one woman. Messiah rounds out the multiple honorees by adding one woman to their mix for a total of three combined selections.
 
The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2021-22 Division III Academic All-America® teams program.
