Kyle Hiebert
AUSTIN, Texas – For the second consecutive season, defender
Kyle Hiebert, a graduate student at Missouri State University, headlines the 2021 Academic All-America® Division I men’s soccer team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced Friday.
Hiebert has been named the 2021 Academic All-America® of the Year for Division I men’s soccer. Hiebert joins 2021 women's repeat winner Kerry Abello as the first student-athletes to earn the distinction twice in soccer for Division I (formerly university division). They become the first duo in any sport in CoSIDA Academic All-America program history to earn back-to-back Academic All-America® of the Year honors in the same seasons.
A native of La Salle, Manitoba, Hiebert is pursuing a graduate degree in accounting. He owns a 3.92 GPA in his graduate course work after earning a 4.0 as an undergrad. Hiebert earns his fifth Academic All-America® honor after being named to the first team each of the last three years, and to the third team in 2017. He is the first four-time first team selection in men’s soccer and the first five-time honoree. Hiebert became the first player to win three consecutive Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the Year awards. He also earned his third straight MVC Scholar Athlete of the Year honor. He led the Bears to their second straight MVC title and a 17-2 record.
Five of the 33 members of the Academic All-America® Division I men’s soccer teams boast a perfect 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate work or graduate school. The 11 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.79, with the entire men’s team holding a collective average GPA of 3.80.
Thirteen other student-athletes join Hiebert as a repeat selection on the Academic All-America® Division I men’s soccer team. Fellow teammate
