AUSTIN, Texas – Gabriel Leifer from Yeshiva University headlines the Academic All-America® NCAA Division III men’s basketball teams as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced Wednesday.
Leifer has been named as the Academic All-America® of the Year for men’s basketball.
Leifer, from Lawrence, New York, boasts a 3.73 GPA as an accounting/management double major. He is a two-time D3hoops.com All-America selection and was the 2018-19 Skyline Conference Player of the Year. In addition, he was selected as the Yeshiva University Outstanding Male Graduating Student-Athlete in May.
One school — Illinois Wesleyan — is represented on the men’s and women’s first team with
Kendall Sosa the pick on the women’s team and
Matthew Leritz for the men.
The six-man men’s team includes Leifer, Leritz,
Ryan Algier (Rochester),
Spencer Cook (Stevens Institute of Technology),
Jake Negus (Edgewood), and
T.C. Thacker (Lynchburg).
The 15-man men’s squad has a 3.84 average GPA with the six-man first team checking in at 3.86. Marcus Quirk, a third team honoree from Cornell College, is the lone men’s player with a perfect 4.0 GPA.
The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 Division III Academic All-America® teams program.
