AUSTIN, Texas – Senior Hunter Weiss of College of St. Benedict (CSB) headlines the 2020-21 Academic All-America® Division III volleyball teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Hunter Weiss, a biology major, has been selected as the recipient of the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year award for Division III volleyball. The Shakopee, Minnesota native recently graduated from St. Benedict with a 4.0 cumulative GPA. A first team selection this year to the Division III Academic All-America Team, Hunter is now a two-time Academic All-America® honoree. She was also a member of the first team in 2019.

Hunter Weiss is joined on the 2020-21 Academic All-America® Division III volleyball teams by her twin sister Madison, also a recent graduate of St. Benedict. Madison Weiss is a second team selection to this year’s Academic All-America®, earning her first career Academic All-America® selection.

Hunter Weiss earned AVCA Division III All-America honors in 2018 and 2019. She was named the 2019 AVCA Central Region Player of the Year and also named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) Player of the Year in that season. Recently Hunter was named the College of St. Benedict 2020-21 Presidential Award winner, given annually to a senior student-athlete who excels during her four years in academics, athletics and community service.

Hunter Weiss finished her career at CSB with 1,235 kills, a mark that is eighth in program history. She has a career hitting percentage of .330 with 343 career blocks. She led the MIAC with 441 kills in the 2019 season; during that time her hitting percentage that season was nearly .400.

Eight of the 21 members of the 2020-21 Academic All-America® Division III volleyball teams have a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA. The nine members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.94 and the 21 student-athletes that make up all three teams have an average cumulative GPA of 3.89. The eight team members with a 4.0 GPA are: Hunter Weiss (St. Benedict), Jacqueline Baughmann (Trine), Elizabeth Chu (Stevens Institute of Technology), Allison Elkenberry (Cornell College), Julia Wood (Aurora), Adair Cutler (Hope), Stella Chung (Baruch), Courtney Grubbs (Thiel).

Six of this year’s 21 student-athletes on the three teams are repeat selections from 2019. Hunter Weiss is one of the six members of this year’s first team that are repeat selections from 2019: however, she is the lone selection this year to also earn first team recognition in 2019. Wood and Baughmann are first team selections this year following second team honors for each in 2019. Chu, Elkenberry and Emma Griffith (University of Chicago) each earned first team recognition in 2020-21 following third team nods in 2019.

The Division III Academic All-America® program is financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 Division III Academic All-America® teams.
