AUSTIN, Texas – Graduate student Matt Mulhearn of Webster University headlines the 2021 Academic All-America® Division III baseball teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

Mulhearn is in the MBA program as a graduate student at Webster and has earned his bachelor’s degree in finance from Webster. He has been selected as the recipient of the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year award for Division III baseball. The Chicago Heights, Illinois product compiled a 3.77 cumulative GPA as an undergraduate and holds a 3.83 cumulative GPA as a graduate student.

A first team selection this year to the Division III Academic All-America Team, Mulhearn is now a two-time Academic All-America® honoree. He was a member of the second team in 2020. Mulhearn was named the Division III National Pitcher of the Year in 2021 by ABCA/Rawlings, D3baseball.com and Perfect Game Baseball. A first team All-American this season, he was also named Central Region Pitcher of the Year by both ABCA/Rawlings and D3baseball.com.

Mulhearn was 12-1 with a 0.90 ERA in 13 starts during the 2021 season, working six complete games. In 100 innings on the mound this spring, he allowed just 10 earned runs and 10 walks while setting school and conference single-season records with 137 strikeouts. He holds Webster’s career records for innings pitched (346), wins (34), appearances (67), and strikeouts (364).

Six of the 34 members of the 2021 Academic All-America® Division III baseball teams have a perfect 4.00 cumulative GPA. The 11 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.82 and the 34 student-athletes that make up all three teams have an average cumulative GPA of 3.81.

Nine of this year’s 34 student-athletes on the three teams are repeat honorees from 2020. Oswego State’s Ryan Enos is a three-time honoree with first team accolades this year, in 2020 and 2019. Connor Harding of The University of Scranton is a first team selection in 2021 following second team recognition in 2020 and first team honors in 2019.
