Hanna Hull
AUSTIN, Texas – Graduate pitcher
Hanna Hull of Virginia Wesleyan University headlines the 2021 Academic All-America® Division III softball teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
A mathematics major with a 3.65 cumulative GPA (a 3.85 GPA while pursuing a master of business administration degree), Hull has been selected as Division III softball’s Academic All-America® of the Year for the second consecutive season.
A first-team selection to the Academic All-America® Division III Team the past three years, Hull was named the 2021 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Pitcher of the Year after she led Virginia Wesleyan to its third national championship in four complete seasons.
She totaled a 23-3 record and three saves with 200 strikeouts, a 1.31 ERA and .134 opponent batting average in 154.2 innings pitched this spring. Hull broke Division III’s career record for pitching wins (132) and appearances (170), and finished fourth in strikeouts (1,353) and games started (138). She recorded 60 games of 10 or more strikeouts.
A native of Chesterfield, Virginia, Hull was a four-time NFCA first-team All-American, two-time NFCA Player of the Year, the 2017 NFCA Freshman of the Year and a seven-time NFCA Pitcher of the Week.
Fifteen of the 33 members of the 2021 Academic All-America® Division III softball teams have at least a 3.90 GPA, with the 11 first-team honorees averaging an undergraduate GPA of 3.82.
The 2021 Academic All-America® Division III softball teams include six repeat Academic All-America® performers, four of which are now three-time honorees. Hull was joined on the first team for the third consecutive year by
Megan Zinn (University of Scranton), while
Kelly Jurden (Texas Lutheran University) repeated her first-team honor from 2020 following a second-team distinction in 2019 and
Kiersten Anderson-Glass (University of St. Thomas) collected her second, second-team award following a third-team honor in 2019.
Lauren King (Rhodes College) repeated her second-team honor from a year ago and
Julie Graf (St. Olaf College) achieved second-team distinction following her third team honor in 2020.
The Division III Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division III national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 Division III Academic All-America® teams program.
