AUSTIN, Texas – Senior outfielder Kendall Cornick of Augustana University headlines the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Softball teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 Division II Academic All-America® program.

Cornick has been selected as the recipient of the Academic All-America® Team Member the Year for Division II softball. It marks the second straight year the native of Mason City, Iowa has earned Academic All-America® honors. She was a second team selection in 2020.

A biology and psychology major with a 3.94 cumulative grade-point average, Cornick was recently awarded an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship. She plans to attend the University of Iowa in the fall for medical school. She was previously awarded the Kelley Award from the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference as the league’s top female student-athlete.

Cornick was a consensus first team All-America selection in 2021 after leading the Vikings to a 49-8 record, the most wins in Division II in 2021. Augustana was ranked number one in the country most of the year before finishing third in the NFCA Top 25 season-ending poll. The Vikings won the NCIS championship and the NCAA Division II North Central title, competing in the NCAA Championships for the sixth time in program history.

During her time as a Viking, Cornick helped lead the Vikings to the 2019 NCAA Division II National Championship, earned the NSIC Player of the Year award, was named the D2CCA Central Region Player of the Year and was a top-15 finalist as the Schutt/NFCA National Player of the Year.

This past year, Cornick was a consensus first team All-America selection, earning nods from the NFCA and D2CCA while being a Top-15 finalist for the Schutt NFCA National Player of the Year. The NSIC Player of the Year hit .453 with 78 hits, the third most in Division II. She also tallied 34 stolen bases, a mark that ranked second in the nation. She set an Augustana school record with seven RBI in a single game in the Vikings' win over St. Mary's. She had 17 doubles and scored 65 runs, the latter figure good for 13th in Division II.

Cornick concluded her career at Augustana ranked second all-time with 91 steals while owning a .377 batting average. In 2021 alone, she hit .453 with 78 hits, 17 doubles and scored 65 runs. She also stole 34 bases this year, a mark that ranked third in the nation and is second on the all-time stolen bases list for a single season.

During the abbreviated 2020 campaign, Cornick hit .365. In 2019, she was a second team All-NSIC selection as Augustana won the national championship and NSIC Tournament. She hit .386, leading the Mavericks in steals (31) and runs (74), the latter figure ranking second nationally. She hit .282 in 2018 in her first season with Augustana. Cornick played one season at North Iowa Area CC, earning first team NFCA All-American honors and second team NJCAA accolades.

Twenty-three of the 33 members of the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Softball teams have at least a 3.80 GPA, with six student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. The 12 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.88.
