AUSTIN, Texas – University of Alabama graduate catcher Bailey Hemphill repeated as the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year, highlighting the 2021 Academic All-America® Division I Softball Teams selected by CoSIDA.

Hemphill, who was the 2019 Team Member of the Year, is the first repeat selection since fellow Alabama softball alumnus Haylie McCleney went back-to-back as Team Member of the Year in 2015 and 2016.

A native of Lafayette, La., Hemphill graduated with a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education in 2020, maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA, before earning her master’s degree in hospitality management this spring, finishing once again with a 4.00 GPA.

The 2021 SEC Player of the Year, Hemphill helped the Crimson Tide to their 13th NCAA Women’s College World Series appearance after hitting a blistering .419 with 62 hits, eight doubles, one triple, 14 homers, 57 RBI, a .770 slugging percentage and 57 walks in 61 games. She was named a First Team NFCA All-American and garnered NFCA First Team All-South Region accolades and was voted to the 2021 Women’s College World Series All-Tournament Team.

Hemphill wrapped up her career at Alabama as the SEC career walks leader (237) and the program record holder for career home runs (64).

She is a three-time, Academic All-America® First Team honoree (2021, 2020, 2019), and was named to the second team in 2018.

The 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division I Softball Teams feature 18 members with a 4.0 GPA and 22 members with at least a 3.90 GPA as either undergraduate or graduate student-athletes. The 11 members on the first team have an average GPA of 3.94.

In addition to Hemphill, the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division I Softball Teams have 10 repeat selections from the 2018, 2019 and 2020 teams – Mackenzie Boesel (University of South Carolina), Jessie Harper (University of Arizona), Kaylee Tow (University of Alabama), Sami Williams (Iowa State University), Andrea Howard (University of New Mexico), Kendyl Lindaman (University of Florida), Jenna Cone (George Washington University), Allie Jones (Mercer University), Georgina Corrick (University of South Florida) and Kristin Hallam (Hofstra University).
