AUSTIN, Texas – Junior designated hitter Haydn McGeary of Colorado Mesa University headlines the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II baseball teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).

The Division II Academic All-America® program is being financially supported by the NCAA Division II national governance structure to assist CoSIDA with handling the awards fulfillment aspects for the 2020-21 Division II Academic All-America® program.

McGeary has been selected as the recipient of the Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for Division II baseball after enjoying incredible success at the plate in 2021. The Peoria, Arizona, native is an accounting major with a 3.42 cumulative grade-point average.

The junior was the consensus National Player of the Year, recognized for the honor by the ABCA, D2CCA and NCBWA. McGeary finished the season with a .491 batting average with 88 hits, 26 doubles, two triples and 20 home runs along with 67 runs scored and 88 RBI. He had a .973 slugging percentage and a .541 on-base percentage. He ranked first in Division II in hits, doubles, RBI, and slugging percentage. He had at least one hit in 42 of 47 games he played in, ending the season on a 15-game hitting streak. He had two-or-more hits in 28 contests.

Thanks to McGeary’s sensational slugging, Colorado Mesa finished with a 42-7 record, reaching the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship game and playing in the NCAA Division II South Central Regional.

McGeary hit .471 during the shortened 2020 campaign, hitting nine home runs and driving in 30 runs in just 18 games. He ranked third nationally in home runs and slugging percentage (1.014), along with tied for first in home runs per game. As a freshman in 2019, he helped the Mavericks reach the NCAA Division II National Championship game while hitting .347 with 11 doubles and 11 home runs.

Sixteen of the 33 members of the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America® Division II Baseball teams have at least a 3.80 GPA, with eight student-athletes maintaining a perfect 4.00 GPA. The 12 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.71.

The 2020-21 Academic All-America® Division II Baseball teams have six repeat performers – Daulton Martin (Tusculum University), Spencer Branwell (Colorado Mesa University), Hunter Shepherd (Catawba College), Logan Soole (Metropolitan State University of Denver), Cole Swiger (Bloomsburg University), and Joseph Kim (Azusa Pacific University) - from the 2020 CoSIDA Academic All-America® teams.
