AUSTIN, Texas – Defender
Kyle Hiebert, a graduate student at Missouri State University, headlines the 2020-21 Academic All-America® Division I men’s soccer team selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) and announced Monday.
Hiebert has been named the 2020-21 Academic All-America® of the Year for Division I men’s soccer.
A native of La Salle, Manitoba, Hiebert is pursuing a graduate degree in accounting. He owns a 4.0 GPA in his graduate course work after also earning a 4.0 as an undergrad. Hiebert earns his fourth Academic All-America® honor after being named to the first team in 2018 and 2019, and to the third team in 2017. During the spring 2021 season, Hiebert led the Bears to a Missouri Valley Conference (MVC) tournament title and a bid to the NCAA Tournament. He started all 14 games on the backline for Missouri State, en route to being named the MVC Defensive Player of the Year and the MVC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Hiebert is a two-time United Soccer Coaches (USC) All-American, earning first team honors this past season. He was a MAC Hermann Trophy semifinalist along with being named the USC Scholar Player of the Year. Hiebert concluded his career by starting 68 consecutive games for the Bears.
Eight of the 33 members of the Academic All-America® Division I men’s soccer teams boast a perfect 4.0 GPA in their undergraduate work or graduate school. The 11 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.85, with the entire men’s team holding a collective average GPA of 3.78.
Joining Hiebert as a repeat selection on the Academic All-America® Division I men’s soccer team is fellow teammate
Michael Creek. It is Creek’s third Academic All-America® honor after being named to the first team in 2019 and the third team in 2018.
David Grana (Saint Joseph's University) also earns his third Academic All-America® award following selections to the second team in 2018 and third team in 2019. Other repeat selections from 2019 include -
Andrew Thomas (Stanford University),
Joel Harrison (University of Michigan), and
Zach Maas (Utah Valley University).
