Anna Cockrell
AUSTIN, Texas – Graduate student
Anna Cockrell of the University of Southern California headlines the 2021 Academic All-America® Division I Women's Track & Field/Cross Country teams, as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
Cockrell, who carries a 4.00 GPA in a public policy graduate program and earned her undergraduate degree in communications, has been named the 2021 Academic All-America® Team Member of the Year for Division I women’s track & field/cross country for the second-straight year.
Cockrell, from Charlotte, N.C., was a 2020 Tokyo Olympian in the 400m hurdles. She was named the NCAA Division I Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Scholar Track Athlete of the Year and won both the 100H and 400H at the 2021 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field Championships, becoming just the second athlete in meet history to sweep those events (Queen Harrison, Virginia Tech in 2010). It is the first time in program history that a USC athlete has been named the NCAA Division I Women's Outdoor Track & Field National Scholar Track Athlete of the Year. Cockrell also set the USC 400m hurdles record of 53.70 this season and won both the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles titles at the Pac-12 Championships.
Of the 46 members on the Academic All-America® Division I women’s track & field/cross country team, 19 boast a perfect 4.0 GPA. The 16 members of the first team have an average GPA of 3.92.
